CRG, TWO PODIUMS AT THE WINTER CUP WITH HILTBRAND AND FEDERER
Pedro Hiltbrand secured the third step of the podium in OK at Winter Cup, Fabian Federer alike in KZ2 with Team SRP. Paolo De Conto completed a great comeback race. Gabriel Bortoleto off in the Final, after being among the main protagonists of OK-Junior.

Weather conditions have affected the performance of CRG drivers at the 23rd edition of the Winter Cup of Lonato, but two well-deserved podiums rewarded Pedro Hiltbrand’s combative performance in OK and Fabian Federer’s race in KZ2 with Team SRP.

Cold and rain that made the tarmac tricky on Saturday and on Sunday did not help the performance of the Italian outfit’s drivers. In particular, these conditions did not help Paolo De Conto in KZ2, who managed nevertheless to recover from some contacts in the heats making good show of the competitiveness of his CRG-Tm chassis in the Final, when he recovered from last to an excellent P8, and did not help Gabriel Bortoleto either, as he slipped off at the “chicane” during OK-Junior’s lap one, when holding P4 after being among the quickest of the weekend.

KZ2. Fabian Federer, on track with Team SRP, clinched the third step of the podium at the end of an overall good performance, finishing behind Ben Hanley and Anthony Abbasse. Paolo De Conto took three second places in the heats, but was later on involved in three incidents in the following heats and in the Super Heat, which forced him to start the Final from the last place on the starting grid. He managed anyway to complete a stunning comeback up to the eighth place. It would have been difficult to get something more. Among CRG protagonists in KZ2, good performances were put in by Jorrit Pex, who was 10th in the Final, the Swiss Jean Luyet was 16th, while Alessandro Giardelli was fourth absolute in qualifying being 0.049s shy of the pole position and ended 17th in the Final. Benjamin Tornqvist of CRG Holland was 20th, Andrea Dalè 23rd for team Nuova 3M and Stan Pex 28th. Emilien Denner (Kalì-Kart) just missed out to qualify for the Final, as happened to Michael Rosina, Marco Valenti and Filippo Berto, that could not get into the top 34 despite the good times posted in practice.

OK. In OK, Pedro Hiltbrand managed to confirm his speed in the Final, leading his CRG-Tm to the third step of the podium, after being seventh in qualifying practice and constantly scoring good results in the heats, in a crescendo of results that reached its top with the second place in his Super Heat. Callum Bradshaw ended a very good performance within the top ten in P10, while Kilian Meyer was handed a 10s time penalty (dropped front fairing) and was pushed down to P13. Franco Colapinto ended behind in P17, but he put in a good recovery after the practice times and results of the heats. Some episodes in the heats prevented Andrea Rosso from qualifying for the Final, as happened to the two drivers from Hong Kong Royce Yu and Frederik Lee. The Final was won by Hannes Janker.

OK-JUNIOR. A good performance was expected from Gabriel Bortoleto in OK-Junior, and the Brazilian was in fact among the protagonists until the Final, when he was betrayed by the braking at the chicane of the first lap slipping wide on the tricky tarmac due to the rain fallen on Saturday. That was a real shame since Bortoleto could have scored a good result, as shown by his victory in the Super Heat. The Final was won by Paul Aron. Among the other CRG drivers, Luca Giardelli was 16th, Alfio Spina 22nd but showed sensible improvements in his debut in the category, as done by Enzo Trulli, who was 24th. Malaysia’s Adam Putera and the two Americans Tyler Maxson and Elio Giovane could not qualify for the Final in what was their first experience in a hard-fought and difficult race like the Winter Cup.
MINI ROK. The best results for CRG in Mini Rok were obtained by Hayden Lupifieri, who was ninth at the end of a good comeback race. The Russian Dmitry Matveev of Team Gamoto was 16th instead, while the other Russian Kostantin Krapin of CRG Holland ended 26th. The victory went to Andrea Kimi Antonelli.

CRG PROTAGONIST BUT A BIT UNLUCKY AT THE TROFEO DELLE INDUSTRIE
Andrea Rosso made a great debut with CRG in OK being very quick. Fabian Federer did not start well from the pole position in KZ2 but ended fourth in the Final. Gabriel Bortoleto could not get the most of a good start to the weekend in OK-Junior.

Edition 46th of the Trofeo delle Industrie held in Lonato at the South Garda Karting Circuit did not smile to CRG colors, despite giving productive feedback for several drivers competing on the chassis made by the Italian company.Andrea Rosso (CRG-Parilla-Vega) made his deubut with CRG in OK and confirmed to be very quick and could have won the race organized by Parma Karting had he not slipped in some pitfalls, like the 10s time penalty he was handed in Prefinal due to the dropped front fairing on his kart or the incident in the Final when chasing P2 after an exceptional comeback race. Rosso was the quickest after heats though, but he had eventually to settle for P5 in the Final, posting the quickest lap of the race and displaying an overall good speed. Among CRG drivers, Michael Rosina managed also to take a top ten finish in P10

In KZ2, Fabian Federer, started the Final from the pole position on CRG-Tm run SRP Racing Team. He had been among the absolute protagonists of the event winning the Prefinal after clinching P2 in the heats and being the quickest of Group 1 in qualifying. Unfortunately, Federer did put in a good getaway in the Final and threw away a victory that seemed at reach in this way, closing his effort in P4, leading CRG Holland’s Benjamin Tornqvist after a great comeback race.

Alessandro Giardelli is proving to be a strong interpreter of KZ2: he was quick in qualifying posting the fourth time of Group 2 and then showed good speed in the race taking P10. Andrea Dalè (Nuova 3M) has also been shining for CRG colors taking the eleventh place, while the Brazilian Gaetano Di Mauro was 19th in the Final after recovering ten places. Filippo Berto had an unlucky debut with CRG and was forced to an early retirement form the Final, as Daniele Vezzelli who run a great Prefinal, while Marco Valenti could not go beyond the second chance race, despite showing an improved competitiveness. The French Emilien Denner run a very strong race on Kalì-Kart, despite losing some positions especially in Prefinal, after a promising P13 in qualifying. He eventually closed his weekend in 23rd place.

The best of CRG drivers in OK-Junior was the Spaniard Javier Sagrera of M2 Racing Karts, who was seventh in the Final, while the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto could not get the most of the weekend that started well with a good fourth place in Prefinal and ended 11th. Some hiccups prevented Luca Giardelli and Leonardo Bertini Colla respectively to go beyond the 15th and 16th place. Mathias Torreggiani was handed a 10s time penalty that relegated him to the final 23rd place.

Alfio Spina has been the best of the 60 Mini drivers on CRG, but CRG Gamoto’s driver had to settle for P6 this time around, a result that confirms him among the strongest of the category though. The American Akshay Bohra ended also in the top ten in P9.

CRG HITTING THE DKM JACKPOT IN LONATO
CRG has claimed three titles with Jorrit Pex in KZ2, Dennis Hauger in OK and Kas Haverkort in OK-Junior at the closing round of DKM held in Lonato.

The German Championship DKM has seen once again CRG having the upper hand an the rivals thanks to several solid results in the closing round held at the South Garda Karting circuit in Lonato, that has ended with Jorrit Pex taking the victory in KZ2 and Dennis Hauger and Kas Haverkort alike, respectively in OK and OK-Junior.

The race in Lonato, that was the debut of the DKM Championship with 170 drivers on track, has been quite tricky due to the weather conditions, but the competitiveness of CRG drivers has been great in all grades.

SIXTH WIN FOR JORRIT PEX IN KZ2

Jorrit Pex claimed his sixth DKM title in KZ2 on CRG-Tm, after winning it for four years running from 2011 to 2014 and then again in 2016. The Dutch driver of CRG Holland has been among the best since qualifying and heats in Lonato, ending third in Race-1 and securing the title one race early in this way. Jorrit Pex closed Race-2 in seventh place, but with the Championship victory firmly in his hands.

Jorrit Pex commented the victory in this way: “This is has been my sixth championship now. It was a good season, I was on top 3 in eight of the ten races and I scored three victories in the two rounds in Wackersdorf. It has been a good competition in DKM, very good organization, many good drivers and I liked the tracks we used. When it is a good competition of course you like to win, especially for the sixth time. This was the first time in Lonato and it has been very nice, a lot of drivers. Next year the first race will be in Lonato and I think it will be full fields. Very nice.”

Among the quickest in KZ2, Jorrit’s younger brother Stan Pex ended the championship in third position, while SRP Racing Team’s Fabian Federer followed him in fourth. Flavio Camponeschi could not make it to the start of this closing round in Lonato, as he is still recovering from the injuries sustained in the recent World Championship in England and ended the DKM campaign in fifth place. His end result made it 4 CRG drivers in the top 5.

Among the young drivers in force at CRG, Alessandro Giardelli is turning out to very competitive. He has been very quick also in this occasion taking P7 in qualifying and P6 after the heats. The victory of the two finals of Lonato’s closer went to Jeremy Iglesias, who is the runner-up in the championship, and to Matteo Zanchi.

DENNIS HAUGER CHAMPION ALSO IN OK

In OK, the Norwegian Dennis Hauger ended his happy experience in karting on CRG-Iame on a high, before switching to car racing next year. Hauger managed to take the championship victory thanks to Race-1’s victory in Lonato, at the end of quite an eventful race. He therefore claimed another DKM title after winning last year’s OK-Junior campaign. Hauger secured the title one race early at the end of Race-1 having the best of his nearest rival David Schumacher, before taking another podium in Race-2 with P5. Hauger has obtained 5 wins in DKM with CRG in this season: one in Kerpen, three in Wackersdorf and the final one in Lonato.

Among CRG drivers, Kilian Meyer has been shining taking P7 in Race-1 in his comeback to karting after a wrist injury, while Tim Troger and Michael Rosina also ended Race-2 in the top ten, as they respectively ended ninth and tenth.

CRG had a great start of the DKM in Germany at the circuit of Ampfing dominating KZ and scoring great results also in OK and OK-Junior.

The round of Ampfing has been the opener of DKM and CRG has been protagonist once again with its drivers, after last year’s very successful campaign in which the Italian make secured the title in all categories.
CRG kept its momentum in Ampfing especially in KZ winning Race-1 with Flavio Camponeschi as CRG chassis locked out the podium, and Race-2 with Stan Pex, as five CRG chassis completed the top five. This was an absolute dominant run.

CRG, CLEAR DOMINATION IN KZ

Flavio Camponeschi, back to KZ for the occasion with CRG Deutschland Rutsch & Herpich GbR, has been shining with the win qualifying heats and claiming an authoritative victory in Race-1 leading Jorrit Pex and Fabian Federer, while last year’s winner of the KZ2 Cup Max Tubben, closed his effort in P5. Alexander Schmitz and Stan Pex were also among the quickest of Race-1, ending respectively seventh and ninth for CRG Holland. Among the emerging talents, Alessandro Giardelli posted a great time in qualifying, posting tenth quickest laptime just one tenth off pole sitter Fabian Federer, but in Race-1 Giardelli has been forced to the retirement due to a contact early into the race. Mirko Torsellini had some problems and was 25th in qualifying and 18th in Race-1.

Flavio Camponeschi’s comment after Race-1: “I am really happy about the result of race one. A really good race, I did not make mistakes. It was really hard as the others were very close behind me and there was no room for error. I just focused on the race, I kept concentration high in every single corner. This championship is very competitive and I am happy for the result. It was a great team effort.”

The second final saw Stan Pex coming to the fore dominating Race-2 after a recovery run started from P9, but Flavio Camponeschi has also been superb after a contact with Daniel Stell early on. Camponeschi lost a few places but then made up for the lost time climbing back to P3, engaging a battle for second with Jorrit Pex. CRG colors monopolized the five-places podium of DKM with Stan Pex, Jorrit Pex, Camponeschi, Federer and Schmitz closing in the order. Tubben finished in the top ten in eighth place, Toni Tschentscher was ninth with SRP racing Team. Giardelli has been quick and aggressive recovering 14 places to the 18th final place, Torsellini was still affected by some technical issues and ended 20th.

Stan Pex’s comment: “We did a good job in Race-2, while everybody chose to put on new tyres in the first final I went for the old ones. We won Race-2, so I think it was a good choice. I had a good start from P9, I got some positions back and then I passed the others, built a bit of a gap and it was easier in the end. I am happy for my brother Jorrit, he also run a good race, and scored some good points with two second places, but I am happier for my win! It was good racing especially in the front, high level, a lot of fans. We are very happy about this first race of DKM.”

In KZ2 Cup, the Dutch driver of CRG Holland Jeroen Bos was third in Race-1, while Luka Kamali and SRP Racing Team claimed P3 in the second race.

MEYER VERY QUICK IN OK

The young Spanish driver Kilian Meyer of CRG Holland has been under the spotlight in OK, taking a stunning pole position and showing a good confidence in his first season in this category. Among CRG drivers, the Dutch Glenn Van Berlo of CRG Keijzer Racing Team has been the best taking the second place leading team mate Luca Maisch, while Meyer closed his effort in P4. DKM 2016 Junior title winner Dennis Hauger was eventually seventh. He won the race leading the runner up by more than 2 seconds, but was then handed a 5s time penalty due to the front fairing dropped at the start from P10. Meyer confirmed to be among the quickest in Race-2 ending fourth, leading CRG TB Racing Team’s Tim Troger and Hauger. Maisch was eighth instead.

SASSE THE BEST OF CRG DRIVERS IN OK-JUNIOR

Following the pole position set by Fabian Federer in KZ and that of Kilian Meyer in OK, CRG has claimed another pole position in OK-Junior with the German of CRG TB Racing Team Hugo Sasse. Sasse confirmed his speed also in the heats and later on ended Race-1 in second place, as team mate Niels Troger was fourth and RL-Competition’s Marius Zug fifth. Sasse claimed a fourth place in Race-2 leading Troger and Zug, while Pietro Delli Guanti was seventh in Race-2 at the debut with the CRG colors of team CRG Keijzer, leading the Spanish driver Donar Nils Munding of Kalì-Kart Stern Motorsport. Luca Giardelli was twentieth instead in Race-1 and twenty-seventh in Race-2.
