NOT MUCH LUCK IN THE WORLD CHAMP AT ESSAY FOR CRG DRIVERS

CRG_KF_Felice_Tiene essay CRG_KF_Pedro_Hiltbrand essay CRG_KFJ_Alex_Quinn essay

Felice Tiene ended 8th in KF after an unlucky Prefinal. Pedro Hiltbrand was forced to the retirement with two laps to go. Alex Quinn surprising in KF Junior with a spectacular comeback Prefinal.

Essay (France). The weekend just ended in Essay (France – Low Normandy) at the International Circuit Aunay Le Bois has been full of emotions. The venue hosted in fact the only round of the KF and KF Junior World Championship, as weather affected the finals held on Sunday. CRG drivers have been hit by some bad luck in this occasion and they could not live up to their expectations and get what was at their reach.

The two world titles have been won by the two Brits Lando Norris (KF) and Enaam Ahmed (KF Junior) in Essay, but the two CRG drivers Felice Tiene and Pedro Hitbrand could have also slided in the KF title contenders, should bad luck have not hit them.

FELICE TIENE EIGHTH IN KF

The weekend of CRG drivers started a bit steep since qualifying, exception made for Felice Tiene who was sixth, but then it got better in qualifying heats as the fourth place made the Italian driver quite hopeful ahead of the final stages.

Unfortunately, the rain fallen on Sunday morning during the Prefinal and the wet tarmac made Tiene slip down to the 14th place. The Spaniard Pedro Hiltbrand managed to get the most out of the wet tarmac instead, recovering from P18 to the 9th place in the Prefinal.

In the Final, Tiene has been hit at the start of the race, but then managed to close in with a streak of fast laps installing himself right behind the leading group. At the end, he had to settle for P8, showing anyway a crescendo of performance that was confirmed by the third fastest lap of the race. Pedro Hiltbrand placed himself close to the front runners but then lost some ground due to a technical problem to the engine and had to retire when only two laps were still to go.

Regarding the other two CRG drivers competing in KF, Dionisios Marcu could not get access to the final stages as he was P9 in the repechage race, while Sidney Gomez did not earn his pass to the final stages due to the results in the heats.

EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE BY QUINN IN KF JUNIOR

In KF Junior, the very young Alex Quinn stunned everyone putting in a series of amazing and always positive results after finding the right setup. Following the 40th time in qualifying, he was 35th after the heats and then the young Quinn managed to complete a great recover in the wet Prefinal where he finished fourth! A technical problem in the Final, probably to the carburator, slowed down Quinn since the first lap and then made him retire from the race.

Archie Tillett did not manage to get any positions back after a series of unlucky heats and had to settle for 22nd in his Prefinal.

POST RACE QUOTES

Felice Tiene: “This time we were not at our 100%, but I had a lot more speed in the Final than in the heats, and I managed to post the third quickest lap. Unfortunately, we made a mistake with the tires pressure in the Prefinal and I had to settle for 14th. In the Final I just missed a tenth from the front runners, but starting from the 14th position I could not go beyond P8. I hope for a lot better in Sarno’s KZ1 World Championship to be held next 12 October.”

Pedro Hiltbrand: “On the dry I have always been struggling a bit in this weekend, but I am happy as in the final stages I found a lot of speed. The chassis was perfect and in the Prefinal I completed a good comeback from P18 to 9th, but I was slowed down by a problem to the engine in the Final and I eventually had to retire. I am happy anyway on all the work done by the whole team.”

Euan Jeffery, team manager CRG: “We have been hit by bad luck in this weekend, especially in KF Junior, where we run a good Prefinal with Quinn but then have been penalized by a technical problem in the Final. In KF, we had good hopes even if weather conditions were difficult due to the mix of wet and dry tarmac. Felice Tiene has been hit from behind at turn two and therefore lost a lot of time, but then he managed to close in thanks to some great lap times which shows the quality of our material. Hiltbrand started well and managed to be close to the leading group, but a technical problem to the engine made him retire with two laps to go. Our two drivers have run a good Final though. Now we are focused on Sarno’s KZ1 and KZ2 World Championship. We already started preparing the race and we are quite hopeful.”

In classifica generale è decimo.

KFJ
Daniel Ticktum

CRG, SOLID START OF THE SEASON AT THE WINTER CUP

CRG winter cup KF_Tiene_Hiltbrand CRG winter cup lonato 2014 2

Tiene and Hiltbrand produced a spectacular KF2 Final and obtained the second and third step of the podium. CRG on the KZ2 podium with Andrea Dalè. Lennox was bumped in the Final but clinched anyway a good 8th place. Forè ended 10th.

Lonato del Garda (Brescia, Italy). CRG works team lived a very good season opener at the 19th Winter Cup of Lonato, race that highlighted the technical competitiveness of chassis and engines as well as of all drivers of the team. The Winter Cup is back as the “trail-maker” of this new season with a race that had been quite awaited to get some confirmations after the international success harvested last year. Satisfaction has not been long in coming in Lonato where CRG chassis pushed by Maxter in KZ and by TM in KF, turned out to be quite competitive and among the main protagonists of the whole event.

SPECTACULAR DOUBLE PODIUM IN KF2. The greatest satisfactions – as regarding the final result – came from KF2 where Felice Tiene and the young Spaniard Pedro Hiltbrand dominated the category with their TM engines by GFR managing to finish on the podium in second and third place. Excellent was the performance of Felice Tiene, who set the quickest time of his session in qualifying, came out of heats on top, was fifth in the Prefinal and in the Final produced a superb race challenging Alessio Lorandi for the victory as the latter had managed to gain some ground in the initial stages of the race. Absolutely spectacular was also the race of the new-entry Pedro Hiltbrand, who managed to climb all the way from the 22nd spot of the starting grid to an incredible final third place! Dionisios Marcu has been quite unlucky instead. He has been author of a good debut in KF2 but was forced to the retirement in the Final due to a contact at lap one. Nevertheless, he has had solid weekend as proved by the 10th absolute time in qualifying.

VERY GOOD PERFORMANCE FOR LENNOX IN KZ2. Jordon Lennox-Lamb run a very good KZ2 race on his CRG-Maxter. He has been forced to keep gaining positions after he was stripped of the second time in qualifying as he was 100 grams underweight. Despite of this, the British driver made it through to the final stages recovering up to midfield in the Prefinal. A bumping made him lose precious time in the Final, but then he put the hammer down and ended eighth thanks to his very good laptimes.  Davide Forè obtained the 10th place with team DTK after being on top of his qualifying session. The Spaniard Alex Palou, at his first contact with KZ2, ended 17th in the Prefinal and 16th in the Final. Things did not go very well to Fabian Federer. He had been very quick in qualifying but in the heats he lost his reacting to an incident and was therefore disqualified.
CRG name was carried high by the former works driver Andrea Dalè, on CRG, who dominated the scene throughout since qualifying, winning also the Prefinal before finishing third in the Final.

Postitive KF3 debut for last years winner of 60 Mini’s WSK Euro Series and Master Series, the Spaniard Eliseo Martinez. He run a good series of races but some contacts penalized his final result, especially in the Prefinal. Martinez managed anyway to put in a recovery race in the Final and ended 14th. The young Briton Archie Tillett did not make it to the final as he was forced to run the repechage race where he ended 14th and therefore out of the top six that granted access to the final stages.

SUNDAY QUOTES

Felice Tiene: “I had some little engine problems in Prefinal and at the beginning of the Final. I started gaining positions back as soon as I managed to fix these problems, but unfortunately it was too late to hunt for the victory. In the final laps I was very quick but I decided not to run too many risks securing the second place.”

Pedro Hiltbrand: “I am really happy on how things went in my first race with CRG. It has been a good final as I started from the back but I was very quick and did not have difficulties in climbing all the way up to the third place. I would like to thank the whole team on the great job they have done. I am quite hopeful for the coming races.”

CRG is heading to Bahrain for the final round of the World Championship

Bahrain CRG World Championship Verstappen_Palou_Tiene_Lennox Bahrain CRG World Championship max Verstappen Bahrain CRG World Championship felice tiene Bahrain CRG World Championship lennox lamb

CRG is heading to Bahrain for the final round of the World Championship that will take place next Saturday 23rd November. Max Verstappen is the current championship leader and is well motivated to get an historic en-plain! On track also Jordon Lennox-Lamb, Felice Tiene and Yuta Shiraishi with the technical novelty of TM engine. In KF Junior Marcu Dionisios to defend CRG colors. All is set for CRG’s charge to the last title of CIK-FIA available for season 2013. The modern track of Sakhir in Bahrain is in fact about to house the KF and KF Junior World Championships. CRG and its drivers will compete in this final race of the season with the usual professionalism and an interesting technical novelty.

VERSTAPPEN LEADING THE STANDINGS. CRG will get to Bahrain with Max Verstappen as championship leader after the round held at the PF International Circuit of Brandon, England, where the Dutch champion dominated the scene on CRG chassis powered by the TM engine prepared by GFR Engines of the Scott Gordon Finlayson. This is going to be the last round of an amazing season for Verstappen as he won the CIK-FIA KZ World Championship and the two CIK-FIA European Championships KZ and KF, as well as the KZ1 WSK Euro Series and the KZ2 WSK Master Series.  A real record in karting that is even more stunning as it has been scored by a 15 years old driver. The target is only one, trying and win this final title too to score an historic hat-trick!

TECHNICAL NOVELTY IN BAHRAIN. The Dutch champion will be supported by Jordon Lennox-Lamb and Felice Tiene, that will be racing with a big technical novelty: the two drivers will be racing in Bahrain for the first time on the TM engine prepared by GFR, which is going to be a good chance for them to show all their value. They will certainly be hunting the full result too and who knows what surprise might come for all CRG fans!
The Japanese Yuta Shiraishi will be racing in KZ with CRG’s works driver, while Marcu Dionisios will defend CRG’s colors in KF Junior, both drivers experiencing for the first time the TM engine unit.

READY FOR 2014. Euan Jeffery, team manager CRG, commented in this way the eve of this appointment while eyeing 2014: “The decision was made to give a TM engine to all our drivers in this final race of the season, a round that is very important to CRG. We do not want to leave any stone unturned to try and bring home also this World Championship after winning the KZ1 title with Max Verstappen. We are also working for 2014, devising drivers’ lineups and sportive programmes. We will be present as usual in the CIK-FIA Championships and in WSK Euro Series, but also in the Rotax Euro Challenge were we will be fielding a specific works team. In a few weeks time we will unveil the names of CRG drivers for KZ and KF and for the Rotax championship where we count on being present with a top class lineup”.
